So it’s been a while since I updated here. I’ve been posting on tumblr mostly in recent months. Hopefully I’ll get my gear into order over my 3 weeks holidays starting NEXT FRIDAY. ’til then, that’s all really.

Stress head is slightly less stressy after a day of sketching.

Wasn’t planning on entering due to lack of time, but this is my last minute entry into Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Prince ARC contest.  Photo ref’s used from Vania Stoyanova’s Clockwork Prince trailer, but I did change most of Tessa cause I just couldn’t get her right today. Sketched & coloured in photoshop with a pencil brush for something different.

Finished! Delayed somewhat, but finished!

Somewhat less refined than usual, but I actually really like it – I think it suits the composition of the photo.

Painted in photoshoppe with a beautiful reference photo from Vania Stoyanova‘s Clockwork Prince trailer photos that she released.

Done as a result of my being indecisive (no surprises there) about which of her photos to paint first. Ran a poll on my tumblr & all the awesome folks voted this one in first! Not a bad result considering that this is the only one containing Jem – the others all were Will & Tessa!

So, for the uninitiated into Cassandra Clare‘s amazing Infernal Devices world, this is Jem (Christian ??) & Tessa (Mandi Lee) from the Infernal Devices book series.

Have had significantly less time to paint of late; working longer hours than planned which creates a very tired & grumpified Jem who is not in any kind of inspired mood to paint.

Fingers crossed that it was a one-week disaster & painting can resume on a nightly basis as of tomorrow!

Crazy week of, well, mostly Infernal Devices fanart with a little Dr Horrible thrown in.

The Clockwork Prince (written by Cassandra Clare) teaser trailer was filmed by Vania Stoyanova of VLC Productions this week & she has been generously releasing gorgeous sneak peak photos from the shoot online.

Found it too hard to pick just one that I wanted to paint, so did a shout out on tumblr/twitter & 70 odd votes later, I have the painting I will be doing first of Jem (Christian) & Tessa (Mandi Lee).

Knocked out a few Tessa, Will & Jem pencil sketches this week, and a painting of Dr Horrible & Penny <3.

Thassabout it! Updated my About Me page, Commissions for Cancer Council donations are still open AND I think I will be ‘moving’ the art.blog section of my site to my tumblr for ease of posting.  Will post updated link when I get it sorted out this weekend.

Loving Supernatural. Started watching it just over a week ago; already hitting up the middle of Season 3. Makes for a good companion for painting and for feeling crook.

Short & sweet.

Part 2 of my entry into the Walker Books UK The Infernal Devices competition. The idea is to create “.. atmospheric pieces that capture the essence of the characters and the world they inhabit.”

This is meant to be James “Jem” Carstairs. [still bits to fix up I think before I submit]

Part 1 is Tessa Gray.  Part 3 will be William Herondale.  Will combine all 3 into a landscape piece when finished with Will.

3 days working on this painting of Cassandra Clare‘s character, Tessa Gray.. Lost count of the hours, but gosh it was fun to do!

It will be my entry into the Walker Books UK The Infernal Devices competition. The idea is to create “.. atmospheric pieces that capture the essence of the characters and the world they inhabit.”

I’ve chosen to paint Tessa, Will & Jem in a landscape composition.
Tessa is part 1 of this piece.

Researched so many things for this painting; victorian dresses, hairstyles, buttons, fabric, lace, clockwork cogs, London scenery (Big Ben seemed appropriate as it is recognisable as being in London), and tracked down Charles Dickens’ A Tale Of Two Cities to type up the text for the book in Tessa’s lap. All of it SO much fun! I’m not sure I was successful in painting the architecture, alas exacts are not my forte. Hands could use a little tweaking too. Perhaps before I submit the entry.

Anyhow, I’ve already sketched up a draft of Will, so off I go to kick of painting him while watching the latest True Blood!

Finished reading Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Angel from her The Infernal Devices books again today. Inspired to do more Will & Tessa art.

Picked a scene from near the end of CA. Spoilers if you haven’t read the book yet!

Rough sketch, colour blocking & first draft of shading Tessa’s face so far only.

Considering focusing the painting more on their torso & head areas instead of the huge background area. yay? nay? Will see how it plays out!

Sketched & painted while watching Down With Love. Much <3 for Ewan McGregor. Adore the song they sing @ the end. Makes me want to listen to James Darren.

Anyway, back to work tomorrow which means back to limited painting time again until Friday night.
